The experts for Turkish industrial minerals

i.m.h.: Who we are and what we do
  • We are a Hamburg based trading and mining service agency. The focus of our work is on the complex of topics: distribution of industrial minerals and the professional consulting, service and support during the procurement process and during the delivery of mainly rock-forming industrial minerals from Turkey. In other words, activities that can be succinctly summarized under the term "interface management".

  • We have been familiar with the Turkish industrial environment for decades, speak the local language and can therefore, also with the help of our long-standing partners, support your company in the best possible way in the perspective planning of raw material procurement.

  • Personal contact is important to us. Our Turkish partners and suppliers are all medium-sized family businesses. We have known and appreciated all of them for years and, of course, maintain a fair partnership with them.

  • In all our projects, we always see ourselves as mediators between our suppliers and customers and strive to give both partners the greatest possible attention and comprehensive support.

  • i.m.h. is a good possibility for companies, which want to purchase primarily industrial minerals and ores from Turkiye and wish a careful support of the trade process, in order to optimize purchase processes and to reduce transnational trade risks.

Is the procurement of raw materials from Turkey worthwhile at all?

More than ever, we think.

In addition to the increasingly important environmental and climate aspects, the emergence of emerging Asian economies as major consumers of mineral raw materials has not only led to a shortage of supply, but the Corona crisis and the Russia-Ukraine war have also revealed the vulnerability of supply chains and, of course, led to immense logistical challenges for European companies. As a conclusion, future raw material procurement and assessment of suppliers must include environmental aspects in addition to price, product quality and delivery reliability. In addition, companies will not be able to avoid making these more secure and predictable, also through diversity of the supply chains, in order to be able to better cope with future crises.

Our approach to mitigate these challenges is to offer our customers in Europe an alternative source of Turkish industrial minerals to those from the Far East and overseas. Especially since Turkiye has long been considered a hotspot for industrial minerals and is gaining more and more importance as a raw material supplier.

In addition to its geographical proximity to Europe, which ultimately means fast response and delivery times and, of course, lower logistics costs, the country's competitive and highly diversified mining industry, with around 5,000 production sites, is another plus point.

The business practice

In our experience, business relationships in Turkiye should be long-term. Short-term supplier contracts and only occasional purchases are usually not worthwhile and often fail, especially if there are many trades along the supply chain and good coordination of the individual process sections is a prerequisite for completing successful business that lasts.
In addition, the following motto also applies in Turkiye: "Business is done between people, not between companies"
In other words: First comes the clarification of the relationship level and only then do the factual negotiations follow.

When problems arise at the technical and operational business level, these are nowadays more likely to be attributed to personal or entrepreneurial shortcomings and less and less to culturally traditional influencing factors. Otherwise, the usual factors such as:

  • terms of delivery (current Incoterms),

  • terms of payment,

  • Conclusion according to UN sales law,

  • current INCOTERM

be careful and it is particularly important in quality control, preferably starting early on site not to save. The involvement of internationally active goods testing and certification companies can sometimes be helpful in the business process, as can consultation with the AHK (German-Turkish Chamber of Industry and Commerce) based in Istanbul, or similar institutions, preferably before starting a business relationship.
We therefore recommend raw material buyers who have little or no experience with Turkish partners to use the services of an experienced agency in order to proactively and effectively mitigate any difficulties that arise in the business process, or even to be able to prevent them altogether.
